Do you have a missing tooth? Several missing teeth?
Missing teeth are more than a cosmetic problem. When you lose a tooth or several teeth it has a domino effect on your oral health as well as your overall wellness and quality of life. Replacing missing teeth as soon as possible is important and can help you to avoid additional dental problems. However, if you have been away from the dentist and are suffering from lost teeth we welcome you to schedule a visit with Dr. Ribitch and discover a new smile. Replacing missing teeth or securing a poorly fitted denture with dental implants can be life-changing.
What happens after a tooth is lost?
Whether your tooth is extracted or lost as a result of trauma, there are changes in many aspects of your dental health that begin to develop. A lost tooth also means a lost tooth root, which is anchored in the jaw by bone tissue and nourished by healthy gums. Without the root in place, bone tissue begins to shrink and your jawline may change or appear sunken around that area. In addition, the remaining teeth can shift over time to compensate for the “hole” in your smile. This also affects the fit of the bite and can destabilize your remaining teeth.
I have one lost tooth. What are my options?
Replacing a single missing tooth can be accomplished in two ways:
- Dental bridge: we can add a new tooth to your smile using a bridge that will attach to two existing teeth.
- Dental implant: a single dental implant can sometimes be placed in one visit with our advanced treatment planning and technology. A dental implant is like a prosthetic tooth and will be permanently secured into the jaw.
I have lost bone in my jaw after losing my teeth. Am I a candidate for implants?
Lost bone is a common problem after tooth loss. Dr. Ribitch can work with you to augment your jaw bone with bone grafting.
Can a denture be secured by dental implants?
Yes, a denture can be secured with several dental implants. This is often accomplished using a process called All On Four, although we may need to place more than four implants to give you an optimal result. Implant dentures will give you back a smile that is stable and you can once again enjoy a range of foods and speak with confidence.
